Following the success of the first Black Market held in September 2014 during the 10th Montreal International Black Film Festival and the strong demand for learning demonstrated by young Canadian independent filmmakers of all ages and different cultural backgrounds, the Fabienne Colas Foundation would like to organize monthly conferences and round-tables on independent cinema practices. It intends to deal with each and every step of the independent filmmaking process by uniting experts and young creators around a specific topic each month in order to broaden the understanding and answer the questions of aspiring filmmakers.
By discussing such topics as financing, writing and getting your film out there, we would like to provide concrete answers that are adapted to this new generation of filmmakers who are often from culturally diverse communities and who sometimes think there is no place for them in this often-hard-to-access industry. Holding these conferences in Montreal and Toronto will help bring Toronto and Montreal directors together and facilitate discussion. These conferences will be held in collaboration with the Montreal International Black Film Festival and the Toronto Black Film Festival.
We anticipate covering the following topics :
Financing, production, promotion, traditional and alternative distribution, socially-engaged cinema, and many, many more
Help us bring this project to life!
