Being Black in Canada is the largest training, mentorship, and creation program entirely dedicated to Black filmmakers in the country.<\/strong><\/p>

Created in 2012, the Being Black in Canada program aims to develop, professionalize, and equip the next generation of Black filmmakers. This program provides free professional support to young Black filmmakers in creating a short film. In 2019 and 2020, Being Black in Canada enabled a number of emerging Black filmmakers in Montreal, Toronto, and Halifax to create their first short documentary.<\/span><\/p>

The program was offered in Ottawa, Calgary, and Vancouver in 2021 through the support of Netflix, National Bank, Telefilm Canada, and the Canada Media Fund and their local partners. This support will enable 35 new Black artists to participate in the Being Black in Canada program each year.<\/span><\/p>

Their films will be presented at the Montreal, Toronto, and Halifax Black Film festivals and at other festivals before being broadcast on television.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
