The Fabienne Colas Foundation is searching for a Program Manager for the newly launched Festwave Institute – building on its successful Being Black in Canada Program, the largest filmmaking training, mentorship, and creation program in Canada exclusively for emerging Black filmmakers.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FABIENNE COLAS FOUNDATION:

The Fabienne Colas Foundation (FCF) is a non-profit arts organization. FCF’s mission is to advance arts education and to support the creation, production, promotion, and distribution of film, arts, and culture throughout Canada and abroad. The FCF organizes the professional training program for emerging Black filmmakers called Being Black In Canada. It has showcased, trained and supported over 5,000 film professionals. The FCF also organizes 12 annual arts and cultural festivals: Montreal International Black Film Festival, Toronto Black Film Festival, Haiti en Folie Festival in Montreal & New York City, Fade to Black Festival in Montreal, Quebec Film Festival in Haiti, Halifax Black Film Festival, the Halifax Black Summer Festival, the Calgary Black Film Festival, and the Ottawa Black Film Festival, The Vancouver Black Film Festival and the Salvador Black Film Festival.  The FCF positions itself as a space for discussion of the major current artistic, cultural, social, and social-economic issues of our time. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FESTWAVE INSTITUTE:

The Festwave Institute, created by the Fabienne Colas Foundation, is dedicated to removing the barriers that stand in the way of film and television entrepreneurs and supporting them in building successful, sustainable careers. The Institute will do this by giving Black film professionals and other underrepresented creators the tools, skills, and resources required to be successful and independent within a predominantly White-run industry: tailored workshops, panel discussions, masterclasses, hands-on learning, mentorships, networking opportunities, pitching opportunities, equipment access, business skills, match-up programs – all that the Black professional needs to learn, grow, connect and further a career in film and television, both online and on the ground.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for planning and implementing film programs, creating, reviewing and updating the curriculum and procedures
  • Oversee the development of curriculum and content for classes, lectures, workshops, conferences and other educational materials
  • Evaluate all course curriculums and ensure swift compliance to all program submissions and compliance with policies
  • Assessing program needs and hiring mentors, program coordinators, production assistants and all key positions for all programs to run smoothly – with the support of Operations & HR departments
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of new projects and services to address service gaps which includes expanded partnerships and service collaborations
  • Lead the identification and implementation of program and service improvements, changes or restructuring to meet the needs of clients and broaden the Institute’s sphere of influence
  • Ensure that safety and health measures are put in place in the field and being complied with at all times
  • Prepare a program calendar and ensure it runs smoothly
  • Ensure that changing student needs are assessed to ensure programs and services are responsive and accessible
  • Ensure product quality, customer satisfaction and their development
  • Manage operations workflow, quality, and schedule adherence
  • Develop ideas for process improvements
  • Work with numerous teams to make sure film production processes are implemented and operated efficiently
  • Set ambitious production goals and communicates them to key personnel
  • Design and implement a clear recruitment and training process complete with specific goals and targets
  • Provide motivation and support and guidance to team
  • Work with numerous film production teams, acting as a liaison between internal and external partners
  • Oversee the entire coordination of pre-production, production and post-production Canada wide
  • Budget management: Provide supporting documentation, track costs, assure timelines and schedules are met
  • Manage and organize all oversight grant functions and activities concerning budgetary fiscal prudence, mandatory reporting, and government allocation monitoring
  • Communicate any problems or obstacles to the executive
  • Any other tasks that will be requested in relation to the progress of the program, as well as other work and projects within the ecosystem

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Minimum of BAC in a related field
  • Production experience in film/television industry
  • Strong Operations and Budget Management abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong management skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Resourcefulness and the ability to deal with the unexpected
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and facilitate decision making
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Versatility, rigor, autonomy, dynamism, team spirit, initiative, and motivation
  • Ability to have a long-term vision
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and comfortable using Zoom and other similar programs and services
  • Team player and a self-starter, and able to work effectively from home
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen

ASSETS:

  • Professional experience in educational field
  • Fluent or advanced French
  • Public speaking or performance skills and ability to smoothly moderate
    conversations between multiple speakers on a video conferencing platform
  • Tech or AV skills and/or livestream production experience using Zoom or similar video conferencing services and streaming live to YouTube/Facebook or elsewhere – or the interest and curiosity to learn these skills
  • Communications experience and comfort with WordPress, Mailchimp and similar services
  • Experience with event coordination and planning

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS:

  • Reports to the Director of the Festwave Institute
  • Start date: Immediate
  • Contract Term: Full Time. Due to the nature of the Institute, some evenings and weekends may be required
  • Location: Remote
